Western Warrior, better known as simply Warrior, is a large diesel hydraulic engine who lives on the Dark Railway.

Bio[]

Warrior was built on March 15th,1963 at Swindon Works. In 1965, he learned that a steam engine, Hannington Hall, was being taken for scrap. Knowing of a preservation group who were after a Hall, Warrior decided to take her off her intended scrap train and put her onto a siding at Swindon Works, where he stayed with her until the group came and rescued her. By 1972, Warrior had been withdrawn along with the rest of the Western Region hydraulics as they were deemed non-standard by British Rail. He was left in the withdrawal sidings at Swindon where he was discovered by Clyde one morning. Clyde revealed that he had learned of the hydraulics from Hannah, who was now based on the Dark Railway, and that he was looking for a diesel for the DR. After hearing Warrior's story, he decided to collect Mr. Dark, who agreed to purchase Warrior. He was brought to the railway that evening, and was reunited with Hannah. Warrior was subjected to verbal abuse from the passengers in the months that followed, and was one of the leaders of the diesel strike.

Warrior later became worried after learning of the plan to close the railway's mainline connection. Though upset when this was followed through, he was cheered up by Dave's uplifting views on the situation. After Bellgrave station suffered a series of vandal attacks, Warrior suggested that the engines act as security overnight. He caught the vandals in the act one night whilst on guard, and scared them away from the scene. Though they didn't return, he continued to guard the station for a while afterwards just to be sure. When Clyde began making unpleasant comments towards Colossus, Warrior reprimanded him, warning him to back off. When an argument between Clyde and 257 Squadron almost turned physical, Warrior intervened and reprimanded Clyde again, this time calling out his unpleasant behaviour in general and questioning if he really wanted to help around the railway as he had initially promised. This made Clyde realise how awful he had been, and he later apologised for his behaviour. Warrior was among the engines convinced that Colossus' number (13) was cursed and he ended up frightening himself into breaking down in the process.

Warrior was devastated when Andy left the Dark Railway to become a spares donor for his brother. When his engines failed to start one morning, he panicked about meeting the same fate if his problems became too serious. Zeke Dark and Mr. Smash assured him that this wouldn't happen as Mr. Smash had been learning to better repair diesel hydraulics. Warrior surprisingly became angry upon learning this, as he felt that they should have done more to help Andy with his situation. His anger boiled over upon meeting Rick for the first time and learning he was the reason for the works being closed all along. He quickly apologised for his actions after the others defended the new engine and Mr. Smash threatened to permanently put him out of action if he ever behaved that way again.
