Some Kind of Fuel is the ninth episode of the second series of The Dark Railway Series.

Plot Edit

Eddie attempts to keep the peace between the Dark Railway engines and Maxen, but his efforts are in vain. He starts worrying that they hate him for being Great Western as well and starts isolating himself from the others. Eventually, after an outburst from Brian, Dave and Colin find Eddie and apologise to him, promising to stop arguing with Maxen.

One night, the engines (bar Maxen) are at the sheds. Brian is telling them a story about two engines who he sold some bad cannabis to, when Eddie tells them that drugs are no laughing matter, having had a bad experience with them himself. At the other engines' insistence, Eddie tells his story.

In 1946, Eddie was working on the Falmouth branch line in Cornwall. One day, his crew arrived in an unusual state, and as they prepared him for the day, he began to feel quite sick. Eventually, his crew told him that they had put several tons of cocaine into his firebox, and he was horrified. He quickly fell under the cocaine's influence and started to behave very strangely himself, shouting out nonsense and bumping hard into the coaches. By the time he reached Falmouth he felt very ill indeed, so his crew decided to drive him around the docks. Before he knew it, Eddie found himself being driven off the dockside and straight into the sea, with his crew still laughing away. His crew were sacked on the spot for their actions, and Eddie was rescued and dragged back to Truro.

Eddie hopes that his story has taught them something about drugs and leaves to pull the midnight goods. Unfortunately, Brian reveals he has learnt nothing from the story, feeling in the mood to smoke some weed.
