Starting in 2013, Dark DJ began occasionally uploading videos where he would race other people in Train Simulator. Prior to his own videos, he had taken part in similar races in videos uploading to other YouTube channels, primarily those of Problem Productions and Angry Welshman Productions.
In these races, the contestants race each other, usually in different locomotives, on a specific route from one location to another. As Train Simulator has no official multiplayer, people racing have to relay their progress to one another through a Skype and later Discord call.
